FEBRUARY 2026

  • 2/5 - ‘SCRABBLE’ Night at New Castle Public Library, 6pm.
    Presented by the Battell & Read Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution. Boards and tiles will be provided, along with light refreshments. Registration required.

  • 2/7 - These Houses Were Homes: 5 Generations of Black Community in Old New Castle Walking Tour, starting from Read House & Gardens, 1pm-3pm.
    This event has been CANCELLED due to road conditions (see repeats on 2/14, 21 &28).

  • 2/7 - Delaware Queer Social’s ‘Make & Mingle’ at NC Public Library, 2-4:30pm.
    A relaxing afternoon of crafting, conversation, and community building with queer folks and allies. Crafting supplies will be provided, but please bring your stash to share or something to work on.

  • 2/7 - ‘Pop Up:’ All Vinyl Night! in the Mercury’s ‘Back Space,’ 6-10pm(ish?).
    DJ Trip Warner Plays 80s, Indie, Kroutrock, No-Wave, New Wave & More. Unticketed.

  • 2/10 - City Council Public Hearing & Regular Meeting at New Castle Senior Center, 6:30pm.
    Public Hearing on Ordinance 562, which would update guidelines for Board of Adjustment hearings. The regular meeting will follow at 7pm (or as soon as the hearing concludes if there are many commenters). Full agenda to be posted.

  • 2/11 - ‘New Castle Taverns’ Lecture at New Castle Public Library, 6pm.
    Part of the Library Friends’ annual Member Dinner & Meeting, ‘Taverns’ is a lecture by NCHS director Mike Connolly about the history and import of the many saloons and salons New Castle has been home to. A #Delaware250 Event for NCLF members… and anyone can join at the door. Rain date 2/25, RSVP requested by email.

  • 2/12 - Old Town Horror: Audition (1999), at Old Town Hall, 7pm.
    $5-10 recommended donation, refreshments available, BYOB welcome, presented by NC Public Library and The Mercury. Film description at link.

  • 2/13 & 14 - Down with Love, a Cabaret to Remember, at Old Town Hall, 8pm.
    “Love is a battlefield, and we’re losing on purpose.” The Mercury presents Augustine Mercante and Terry Klinefelter exploring love, laughs and heartbreak. Tickets available at The Mercury’s website.

  • 2/14 - Hearth to Hearth Cooking Demo at the Amstel House, 10am-3pm.

  • 2/14 - Not Just Joe: Delaware’s Presidents, at NC Court House Museum, 12pm.
    NCCHM’s Juliette Wurm discusses the first 10 Delaware Executives, who were called Presidents instead of Governors. Covering the Revolutionary era, the Early Republic and the sometimes rough times of the Delaware’s Presidents. A Delaware-250 event.

  • 2/14 - These Houses Were Homes: 5 Generations of Black Community in Old New Castle Walking Tour, starting from Read House & Gardens, 1pm-3pm.
    2025 tours expand upon Dr. Benbow Flowers’ research on the African American population of Old New Castle with additional source materials, a revamped route and accompanying map, and a special focus on the time period from 1776-1876. ($25.)

  • 2/17 - ‘The Mysterious Disappearance of Aimee Semple McPherson at New Castle Public Library, 6:30pm.
    Patron favorite Dr. Margaret Opsata tells the tale of 1920s America’s most popular evangelist, who disappeared mysteriously in 1926, only to reappear five weeks later with a shaky story about a botched kidnapping, as rumors swirled of an even more salacious escapade! Free, no registration required.

  • 2/18 - Movies @ Old Town Hall: The Watermelon Woman (1994), 6:30pm.
    $5-10 recommended donation, refreshments available, BYOB welcome, presented by NC Public Library and The Mercury. Film description at link.

  • 2/18 - Delaware St. Book Wyrms Meeting at Denali Beauty Works, 7pm.
    The Fantasy/Sci-Fi Book Club’s selection for February is Slaying the Vampire Conqueror by Carissa Broadbent.

  • 2/19 - Oscars Spotlight: One Battle After Another (2025) at the Library, 6pm.
    Screening one of the films nominated for the 98th Annual Academy Awards, in the Community Room on the lower level.

  • 2/21 - ‘Connecting a Million Notes: Uncovering the Life of New Castle's Last Chinese Laundryman,’ at NC Court House Museum, 12pm.
    Learn about Belman Lui, the last proprietor of the "Chinese laundry" at 123 Delaware St.. NCCHM Lead Interpreter Allison Reardon discusses the origins, triumphs, and challenges of her research and explores Lui's life and family in China & the US.

    With special menus and exclusive offers from local sit-down & fast-casual favorites.

  • 2/25 - Movies @ Old Town Hall: Dolemite (1975), 6:30pm.
    $5-10 recommended donation, refreshments available, BYOB welcome, presented by NC Public Library and The Mercury. Film description at link.

  • 2/26 - Oscars Spotlight: Sinners (2025) film screening at NC Public Library, 6pm.
    Screening one of the films nominated for the 98th Annual Academy Awards, in the Community Room on the lower level.

  • 2/26 - ‘Battle Buddies: Robert Kirkwood and Peter Jacquettat New Castle Historical Society, 7pm.
    Historian and retired DANG officer Kennard Wiggins tells the story of “comrades [in the DE Regiment] who relied upon one another on and off the field, they led their respective companies through 32 battles over almost eight years of war.” $5 for non-NCHS members.

  • 3/5 - Read House & Garden Tours resume / museum reopens for season.

  • 3/7 - CCD’s Annual atTAcK Addiction 5K, starting from St. Peter’s, 9am.
    Addiction survivors and the families of those who’ve struggled with it run to raise awareness and funds for Community Collaboration of DE’s local substance abuse treatment programs. Registration & Info here.

  • 3/7 - St. Patrick’s Day Party Fundraiser, New Castle Senior Center, 6:30-10pm.

  • 3/10 - New Castle City Council Meeting at the NC Senior Center, 7pm.

  • 3/12 - British Ales in America: Tasting the History of Colinial Ale at Jessop’s Colonial Tavern & Restaurant, 6:30pm.

  • 3/13 - Women Scorned: Petit Treason & Punishment in 18th C. DE, NC Court House Museum, 12pm.
    Examining documents from the Delaware Public Archives’ collections to discuss the only women ever charged with ‘petit treason’ and the changing legal system of a new Delaware.

  • 3/17 - ‘Health for All’ Free Physicals, at NC Public Library, by appointment.
    See a University of Delaware Nurse practitioner for a school sports physical, Blood Pressure, Blood Sugar and cholesterol checks, and more. (Details at the first link, full list of appointment slots at the second.)

  • 3/18 - Delaware St. Book Wyrms Meeting at Denali Beauty Works, 7pm.
    The Fantasy/Sci-Fi Book Club’s selection for March is The Princess Bride by William Goldman.

  • 3/20 - ‘Blue Hens & Bugbears: Dawn of the Revolution’ at NC Court House, 6pm.
    A roleplaying adventure across DE. Player characters must deliver goods to Chestertown, MD. But will they make it? Will the bugbears stop them? And who will they side with in this impending war? This is a TTRPG that uses a simplified version of DND 5e. Info here.

  • 3/21 - Road to Liberty Game Day at New Castle Court House Museum, 1-2pm.
    Play an original board game created by staff of the Delaware Public Archives to help kids learn about DE’s role in the Revolutionary War. Designed for quick play – approx. 10 minutes – the game utilizes archival documents from the Archives’ collections.


APRIL 2026

  • 4/5 - NC Hundred Lions Annual Easter Parade on The Green, 1pm.

  • 4/11 - Restore & Remember: The Monday Club, at The Monday Club, 1pm-4pm.
    DHS is gathering volunteers to help with organization and processing archival materials at the site while learning from the elder members of the historic club about their history.

  • 4/25 - In the Shadow of the Gallows: the History of Capital Punishment in America, at New Castle Court House Museum, 12pm.


MAY 2026

  • 5/1-2 - Arasapha’s May Market on the Market Square & surrounding.

  • 5/16 - A Day in Old New Castle throughout the Historic Districts, 10am-4pm.


SEPTEMBER 2026

  • 9/13 - First Baptist Church of DE 150th Anniversary Celebration, 11am.

  • NEW: 2nd & Delaware Stitchers’ Guild meets the Second Tuesday of each month at 7pm at Denali Beauty Works.

  • NEW: Improv Fun & Games! at the NC Presbyterian Fellowship Hall, 2nd and 4th Mondays at 6pm. “Just show up! It’s free!”

  • NEW: Delaware Street Book Wyrms Fantasy Book Club, Third Wednesdays at 7pm at Denali Beauty Works.

  • Fourth Friday Art Loop at participating shops and galleries around downtown, including the Opera House, Mo’zArt Gallery, The Window on Delaware Street, The Arsenal/NCHS, the Mercury Cafe’s in-house gallery, and more!
